In this episode, we’re thrilled to welcome back Deanna Springer a close collaborator with the legendary Nancy Zieman, co-founding Nancy Zieman Productions in 2007.

Join us for this special episode as we travel to Madison Wisconsin for the Great American Quilt Show which began largely in thanks to the late Nancy Zieman. Nancy hosted Sewing With Nancy on PBS Wisconsin for 35 years and inspired hobbyists across the country to sew, quilt and embroider. What started as an instructional program filmed in her home in 1982 became the longest-running sewing and quilting education show on public television.

We’ll visit with educators, vendors, exhibitors, a special event host, an appraiser and Deanna Springer who is paramount in carrying on Nancy Zieman’s legacy.

As a reminder, Karen received her undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of North Dakota and graduate degrees, also in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. She was selected as a member of the NASA Astronaut Corps in 2000 and as the 50th woman in space made her first trip to space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 2008, during the height of International Space Station (ISS) construction. On her second spaceflight in 2013, Karen launched on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and lived and worked at ISS for 166 days.

During this time, she became the first person to create with sewing in space!

Cristina Arcenegui Bono began quilting in 1999 after watching the movie “How to make an American quilt”. Her initial background is in travel and tourism, but today her true passion is quilting, especially by machine, either on her long arm or her domestic sewing machine. She has grown her passion into an international business and has won myriad quilting awards. Join us for her remarkable story
